Hiking

Got a late start Saturday.  Everyone was exhausted from the trip.

Bingo again drove the whole way.  We fixed the motion sickness for Ali - she uses the Seabands  and they work like a charm.  Unfortunately, Bingo doesn't (won't) use them.

While Bingo was working, Ali and I took a hike to the Nature station.  It was just over a mile in the noontime sun.  It is amazing how little you can sweat in 90+ degree heat...  Even Ali noticed that she wasn't sweating!  Don't worry, we drank plenty of liquids.  The highlight of that hike was seeing (and taking a picture of) a Road Runner.   Very cool!

After Bingo Finally got ALL the information she needed for work (someone who will remain nameless, Doug) forgot to turn in their timesheet on time.  We decided to go to a different state park nearby.  Apparently, we did not learn our lesson of judging distances here, though this time we knew the mileage, we forgot about the mountains!  The road was narrow and filled with hairpin turns.

The scenery while driving was spectacular.  Limestone mountains provided the foreground to the storm clouds in the not-so-distance.  Park Rangers stop and count every car going to Sitting Bull Falls State Park (there is not much parking).  We missed the rain, but got at least 2 warnings about rain and flash flooding.. Great start to a hike...

The falls were kind of cool, water coming out of seemingly nowhere and spraying to the ground a couple hundred feet below.  The pools at the bottom were kind of slimy, but people were still swimming...yuk!

We took a short hike up the trail to the top of the falls and a little beyond.  It was really steep and SOMEONE forgot her ankle brace, so we did not go very far.  Also, as I found out later, one of the trail signs read 'Watch out for cougars'.  After I stopped laughing, turning back early made more sense.

It was a good time with great scenery, though!

...and we missed all the rain.

Windy and threatening at camp for dinner.  It's been a good day.
